Reception looking back and forth Friday 16th October 2020

Another busy and eventful week. Our jet packs have been a huge hit and I could have done with another pair of hands to get them all made a lot quicker. I did have to laugh when one child was waiting patiently for his turn and said "why can't you work quicker?"

We have also started writing in our phonic sessions so we are working on forming t,i,a,s and n correctly. All letters start from the top. I have a little story about forming "s" and I wonder if your child can tell/show you? It involves leaving school - heading home but then passing home and going to McDonalds. Confused? Hopefully they can explain. I have also told them we never pick their pencil when forming the letter so then "a" won't look like a circle with a line coming out of it. The children all have their own whiteboard, pen and eraser in a pouch which they use every morning. I am nagging them about not getting pen on their jumpers! We have also learnt the five Phase 2 tricky words which are: I, go, no, the, to, into. I will get these into everyone's pots next week. We have also been writing I.

In Maths we are working on recognising numbers and counting. They love to count up the lunch orders in the morning and see which option on the menu is the winner.

This week we also heard the story of two hero/helpful/faithful dogs, Just Nuisance and Gelert. I was a bit vague about how Gelert died as it seemed a bit sad to tell them about his death after telling them about his heroic act of saving the kings baby. Just Nuisance was a Great Dane who lived in Simon's Town in South Africa and would meet the sailors at the train station and take them back to the barracks after a night out. They enjoyed the stories and I showed them a few pictures.

We have also done PE this week and I took half the class at a time while Miss Bairstow , took the other half for PHSCE time. Our focus book was the Blue Chameleon and it was about making friends with people who might not be like us.

Our English focus activity this week was sequencing and I used 4 pictures from the book we have been using over the last 4 weeks, “Juniper Jupiter the Superhero”.

We only have a 4 day week next week and then it is half term. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
