Y1 Friday 24th January 2020– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

We have written an information text about Captain Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition. The children have really enjoyed this.  In Maths, we have used place value to compare numbers.

In Science, we have learnt about herbivores, omnivores and carnivores and used these to categorise polar animals. In Art, we have begun to sketch parts of a polar bear.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Writing about Captain Scott and his Terra Nova Expedition.

√ Playing instruments in Music.

√ Comparing numbers in Maths.

√ Learning a dance in PE.

√ Sorting animals into groups based on what they eat in Science.

√ Writing sentences that make sense that include split diagraphs in Phonics.

Family discussion questions:

  • Who beat Captain Scott to the South Pole? How do you think he felt?
  • Which is bigger 21 or 12? How do you know?
  • What does it mean if an animal is a carnivore, omnivore or herbivore?

Looking forward:

Next week we will be editing and publishing our non-chronological report and information texts about Emperor Penguins and Captain Scott. In Maths, we will be looking at addition and subtraction up to 50.

In Science, we will be experimenting to test the best materials for an explorer to wear.
