Y2 Looking back and Forth Friday 19th March

Friday 19th March 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

Thank you for a great week at school Year 2. The children remain settled and happy.

We have begun a new book in English and have been busy exploring and enjoying the text. We have remembered that good writers check their work. In Maths we have revisited fractions and used the knowledge to solve problems as well as work practically to measure the field in metres. We focused on making plurals with nouns ending in “y” during phonics. In guided reading groups we worked on answering comprehension questions using the text. Science was all about identifying living, non-living and things that have never been alive by using the outdoor areas at school. We have also been active in gymnastics and enjoyed Zumba on Friday afternoon. We have also worked on friendship skills and problem solving together.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Being a Scientist to decide if something is living
  • Fractions
  • Measuring the school field
  • Oliver and Patch
  • Story time with Miss Atkins
  • PE – Shake it Off in Zumba
  • Having lunch with my friends
  • Seeing my friends out in the playground
  • Finding things in common with other people in my class

Family discussion questions:

  • When is World Down’s Syndrome day?
  • What are the numerator and denominator for?
  • Is a bunch of daffodils in a vase living?

Looking forward:

  1. Reading books are changed on Mondays – but please ensure your child has their pack with them every day
  2. Retelling the story of a familiar book
  3. Habitats
  4. Problem solving maths using multiply and divide

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths: measuring in centimetres due Friday 26th March

English: reading comprehension work due Friday 26th March

Spellings: apostrophes to be quizzed on Friday 19th March.
