Y5 17.9.21 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 17th September 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

The children have had a great first couple of weeks and have settled so well. I have been incredibly impressed with their behaviour and their effort. They have presented some wonderful work about South America in their geography books. We began a writing topic this week using the beautiful book, ‘The Book of Lost Adventure’ and the children have completed some lovely descriptive paragraphs based on the wilderness.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed the South America topic and it was interesting learning about this continent.
  • We enjoyed doing some research about Hinduism in our RE lesson.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children if they can name the countries of South America.
  • Ask the children what they learned about Hinduism.
  • Can the children tell you what a features map is?

Looking forward:

Next week, the children will be continuing to explore place value and number in our maths lessons. In English, we will be looking at lots of wonderful extracts from ‘The Book of Lost Adventure’ and using the writing features to inspire our own writing. In Geography, we will be learning about Biomes in South America.
