Y5 20.11.20 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 20th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

It’s been a fantastic week in class. The children produced some wonderful writing based on the book ‘FArTHER’. They were such enthusiastic writers and used many of the techniques we have been discussing - like personification, parenthesis and figurative language.

They have worked hard in maths practising their division strategies. Some of the children struggled with division before this week and have really progressed.

We have also been learning our class Christmas songs – the children may have mentioned this but we have been looking at a couple of songs from the 1970s!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We really enjoyed the ‘FArTHER’ writing and we are proud of our work.
  • We are enjoying playing touch rugby in PE.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children to show you the division strategies we have been looking at this week.
  • Ask the children to name some well-known rivers from around the world and see if they can remember what countries they flow through.

Looking forward:

In our literacy work, we are writing a diary entry for a child being evacuated.

In maths, we will be calculating a fraction of number.

In science, the children will be conducting a thermal insulation investigation.

Wider Opportunities:

The music the children are learning in the Wider Opps sessions is attached at the bottom of the page.
