Y5 2.7.21 Y5 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 2nd July 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

What a lovely week it has been, with some fantastic work produced in class. The children love presenting work for their topic books, and this week they have produced a double page of information about the ancient Olympics. In Mrs Riddell’s art lesson, the children have explored the artwork of Georgia O’Keeffe and really enjoyed being inspired by images of flowers.

In our writing lessons, the children have produced some outstanding survival stories based on the book, The Book of Lost Adventure. We do lots of sharing in class, and it’s been lovely to see so many of the children proudly reading out their stories.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • It was interesting to have a recap learning about the different parts of a flower in our science lesson.
  • We loved writing our survival stories and feel like our writing skills have really progressed.
  • We enjoyed learning about the origins of the Olympic Games.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children how the Olympic Games started.
  • Ask the children to tell you what happened in their survival story.
  • Ask what they learned about Georgia O’Keeffe

Looking forward:

Well, there is two exciting things to discuss about next week. On Monday, the children can come into school in their pyjamas, and will be completing a fun run in the afternoon. This is an event to raise money for the PTA and they are asking for a minimum of £2 donations.

On Friday we have our class Sports Day. The children have been training for a number of events and will hopefully have lots of fun doing the races. They come in their normal PE kit on this day as usual.

In our science work, we will be exploring pollination and fertilisation. In English, we will carry on looking at the great outdoors, and the children will begin to write a survival guide!
