Y5 28.5.21 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 28th 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

This has been a wonderful half term for the children. They have knuckled down, they have worked hard and are most certainly ‘catching up’. I am so pleased with them and they should be very proud of themselves.

Most of them had their second ‘swim day’ today, which they seem to have enjoyed. Over the half term, the children have produced some wonderfully presented work. They have just finished a little booklet about e-safety and they are absolutely brilliant and full of important tips. Please chat to the children about them at home, and what they have learned about e-safety.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed learning about South American Biomes.
  • We liked learning about water resistance.
  • We have really enjoyed having the swimming pool at school.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what they learned about Biomes.
  • Ask the children what the key message of the book ‘The Promise’ is. Ask them how we might show characterisation in our own writing.

Looking forward:

Exciting news - I’m looking forward to being able to send home information about a class trip in the first week back after half term! It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to say that!

Next half term, we will continue with our history and geography topics on Ancient Greece and South America. We have nearly finished our ‘Forces’ science topic, and will soon move on to ‘Living Things’. Our English unit of work will move on to studying the great outdoors, and the children will write an adventure story and a survival guide.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term break!
