Y5 31.1.20 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 31st January 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

It’s been another great week in school. The children have loved the singing with ‘Pop Uk’ and have really thrown themselves into it. Yesterday, all classes recorded their songs, which will now be put onto a CD. There will also be a concert next Thursday afternoon. This has been a wonderful experience for the children.

We also finished our Michael Morpurgo inspired writing topic this week. The children have produced some wonderfully poignant work.

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We loved Pop UK singing sessions!
  • We really enjoyed the book, ‘Billy the Kid’.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask the children what wildlife can be found in an estuary.
  • Ask the children about the songs they have been learning for Pop UK.

Looking forward:

Next Thursday, we have the ’Pop UK’ concert in school. Don’t forget the children also have their trip to Jodrell Bank on Tuesday, which Mrs Saxton has organised and is leading. In maths, we will continue to look at percentages before moving on to multiples, factors and prime numbers. In our written work, we will be writing a recount about the journey of a river.

The children are now signed up to the Accelerated Reader programme. Information coming home soon.

Don’t forget, the children also have access to Times-tables Rockstars and can be practising their times-tables at home if they are able to get on-line.

Wider Opportunities:

Children are currently learning ‘Michael Oliver’ and ‘Mini March’. The note names are at the bottom of the music to help.
