Year 2 Looking Back and Forth 6th November

Thursday 7th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

We have had a lovely week back in school after half term. The children have been really enthusiastic with their learning and are keen on our new book “The Night Gardener” on which we are basing our literacy work. Subtraction is going well too. We are using a picture based method at the moment to help them understand the number system. We have also been very busy starting new topics in science and history plus working in PE, music, geography, RE and French.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Subtracting numbers using the picture method
  • The Night Gardener book
  • Making a dance about journeys in PE and using our track for exercise
  • Learning our class song
  • Playtimes

Family discussion questions:

  • Do you know what topiary is?

Looking forward:

  1. Reading books are changed on Mondays - please ensure your child has their pack with them every day
  2. Geography – The United Kingdom
  3. Character descriptions
  4. Materials – science work
  5. History – Florence Nightingale

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths: sequences sheet due Friday

English: sentences about the seal picture due Friday

Spellings: “dge” words to be quizzed on Friday
