Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 20th November 2020

Y6 - Friday 20th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

It’s just been another cracking week in Year 6 – with a lingual surprises thrown in from the pupils themselves.  Academically, we have completed our writing about Carnegie Hall and whilst we shall continue to enjoy reading “The Good Thieves” as our class novel, next week we will be starting a new topic – wait and see!  Fractions have been our focus in maths this week and we’re strengthening this tricky topic all the while.  Resistors were our scientific investigations this week and in other curriculum areas, we have considered why the five pillars are important in Islam; quizzed about the Indus Valley; considered climate zones in Geography; and we have enjoyed singing with Mrs. Sant on Wednesday.  Super times.

Thank you to all pupils and families for their support with the Reading Challenge this week.  It’s is abundantly clear from their diaries that there has been much reading at home this week, perhaps as usual for some, and an increase for others perhaps.  We cannot encourage our pupils to read at home too much and reading to – or with – and adult is invaluable.  We would like to keep the reading challenge going each week and we will continue to discuss this in class.  There have been a total of over 400 house points given out this week as a result of almost all the homework diaries being in on Thursday, and the success of the reading.  Super impressive, Year 6 (and mums and dads) – please keep this up.  We cannot run out of house points!

They were impressive on Friday morning with their multi-lingual greetings!  There were “good morning” greetings in German, Russian, Norwegian, Afrikaans, Irish, Spanish, and so many more languages.  What an absolutely super surprise, especially as they had organised this themselves.  Whatever will they come up with next???  We wait with great anticipation……………………..

And finally – thank you, parents.  The class have now spent their extra money which came from the remainder of the air purifier.  We have put some school funds to this and we have purchased cushions for the pupils to use both in class and outside. They have each chosen their favourite colours and when they arrive, we’ll take some photos and show you.  They’re going to add a lot of colour to our classroom.  Thank you.
