8th January - Looking back and forth in Year 4

Monday 7th January  2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

Welcome to the new spring term!  Thank you so much for the lovely cards and presents.  I was truly touched by your generosity and kind words.  I hope you have all had a restful, relaxing, fun and family time.  I think I will be glad to get back into a routine again to be honest.  Here’s to another great term.

Year 4 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • The end of term film was a definite highlight for all.

Family discussion questions:

  • What is a haiku?
  • What is a simile and metaphor?
  • Mega – challenge question – Can you explain the ladder method in multiplication?

Looking forward:

Next week we will be working on a unit of poetry.  We will be looking at Haikus.  The children will be counting syllables, reading haiku’s created by famous and some not-so-famous authors, as well as developing their own about the wintry season.

This week, we will also completing our work on states of matter in Science.  We will be looking at condensation and evaporation.

In maths, the children will be revisiting multiplication.  We will be continuing the work on grid method, then working on the ladder method – which is like an expanded version of long multiplication.  We will also be revising the chunking method in division too.
