Looking Back and Forth 10.5.24

Y2 Friday 10th May 2024 – Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:  This week we have completed our persuasive letters in English and have begun learning to use quarter past and quarter to when reading the time. In history, we have compared the lives of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and in science we have observed our seeds to see if they have germinated.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • My highlight has been science because we got to figure out what seeds need to germinate x3
  • I enjoyed fractions because its my favourite. X5
  • I liked playtime because we made a pretend ROBLOX game x2
  • I enjoyed everything!!!!
  • I enjoyed playtime because we went on the field and played football x3
  • I liked maths because we did time
  • I liked English because we wrote letters to the King
  • I liked maths because I do it over and over again and I’m getting good at it.

Family discussion questions:

Florence Nightingale was born on May 12th- this weekend talk as a family about your experiences of nurses. Do you have a family member who is a nurse? How do they help people? Have you ever needed a nurse?

Looking forward:

Next week we will be publishing out letters, watching our seeds closely and learning about Marie Curie.

PE is on Tuesdays! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the 4 children that completed the challenge again this week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!

Have a great week,

Mr Warhurst
