Looking Back and Forth 12th january 2024
Y2 Friday 12th January 2024– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back: This week we have had a fantastic start to the term and 2024. We have used expanded noun phrases to describe the setting in our new text- The Night Gardener and learnt ways to solve addition and subtraction calculations.
Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- I liked English and finding out the story on Grimloch Lane.
- I liked computing because we sent emails.
- I liked finding out about the Great Fire of London and Puddling Lane.
- I liked maths this week because it is challenging and fun.
- I liked learning about the Great Fire of London and it has inspired me to find out more.
- I liked PE because we did some games and I kept trying.
- I liked PE because we did catching, throwing and games.
- My highlight was finding out interesting facts about the Great fire of London.
- Family discussion questions
- In history we have begun discussing the Great Fire of London. Discuss as a family how you would stay safe if there was a fire.
- In computing we have been learning about sending emails. Talk about how you use email and how to stay safe on online.
Looking forward:
Next week we will be finding out more about how the Great Fire of London started and why it spread so quickly. In maths we will be investigating the properties of shapes.
PE is on FRIDAYS! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.
Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.
Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.
Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Some children completed the challenge 6 times last term! Well done to you all- we will send home certificates next week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Warhurst
