Looking back and forth 2.2.24
Y2 Friday 2nd February 2024– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back: This week we have finished writing our setting narratives and published these. In maths we have been using arrays to solve multiplication and in history we discussed the main reasons why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly. We also visited the Book Fair- please see below for extra information about this.
Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- I liked arithmetic because I liked doing missing number questions.
- I liked publishing my writing because it was fun- I feel proud of my work X2
- I enjoyed English because I liked writing about the Night Gardenerx2
- I liked maths because we have started our times tables x2
- I liked writing my own setting narrative
- I liked handwriting because I liked learning how to write letters.
- I liked history because I’m enjoying learning about the Great Fire of London and how it spread.
- I liked learning how to play London’s Burning in music.
Family discussion questions:
- Next week we will be learning about division- please talk to your child when you put things in groups or share objects out. What do you notice?
- Looking forward:
Next week we will start learning how to solve division using different methods. In English, we will start to look at the features of recounts. In history we will learn how different people acted during the Great Fire of London.
PE is on FRIDAYS! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.
Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.
Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.
Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the 4 children that received certificates this week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Warhurst
BOOK FAIR INFO
Dear Families,
Our wonderful Scholastic Book Fair for 2024 returns to school this week and we are hoping our eager readers across the school will be keen to enjoy a new book or two (or three or four). This year, it will run a little different once again and we are operating the fair online.
How will the book fair run?
On Thursday 1st February, the book fair cases will be delivered to school. Each class will have an opportunity during lessons to visit the cases and view the titles available. They may then come home and chat with you about which books they may like to choose.
Whilst the cases will arrive on Thursday, you may view, order and pay for books online from this moment on. Simply visit https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/bookcases to view the titles and follow the details for payment as set out below. Then, please let me know which titles you have paid for (either by email or a wishlist) and I will oranise this for you.
How do I pay for a book?
Titles may be purchased via an easy online payment system - please see the attached flyer regarding online payments and it will be 'option 2'. When paying, please select the primary school, rather than the pre-school. Thank you.
You may also pay with cash - please pop the exact amount into an envelope, along with your child's name, class, and book title(s) and mark this for the attention of me - Mrs Timmins in Year 6.
How does my child receive the book?
Once payments have been received/processed, I will arrange for the books to be selected from the cases in school and then delivered to your child as soon as possible. Where titles are popular, and all copies fly off the shelves, I will ensure that these are ordered on your behalf and as soon as they arrive in school, I will pass these on. Please thank your children for being patient whilst I deal with all requests.
How might I order a book that my child would like?
The children may either bring a wishlist home from school for you to complete, or you may send this in via your class teacher. You could also email these to me at mrs.timmins@goostrey.cheshire.sch.uk. Wishlists will be available in school as paper copies but I’ve attached the form should you wish to chat with your children about what they might like to purchase. Pupils will only be bringing books home once they have been paid for.
Can parents and families view the books online?
Yes, of course. Please visit www.bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/bookcases
Here, you will be able to see all of the available titles. Please note that we will not be carrying books from the "Teen" case as these are intended for high school pupils.
The online system worked exceptionally well last year, however, if you have any queries, please do email me at mrs.timmins@goostrey.cheshire.sch.uk and I will be more than happy to help.
Please note that the last day for ordering will be Wednesday 7th February.
It's a privilege to see how many pupils enjoy a good read and during this busiest of weeks, I will endeavour to answer every query, and ensure that every request is completed, to the best of my ability, as quickly as I possibly can.
Happy, Happy reading!
