Looking Back and Forth - 26th November 2021 Year 4
Friday 26th November – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back: This week, the children published their Raheem Sterling and Ashley Fiolek biographies. We then began a new topic on explanations and instructions.
In maths, we have completed work on efficient subtraction, quite a tricky concepts, hence spending a couple of sessions on it. In short, if you have 7000-4563= instead -1 from the 7,000 = 6,999 and then subtract that (6999-4563=) then +1 back on. A lot easier than trying to exchange with all of the zeros!
This week, the children have made a rather tasty ice-cream in science. We had singing sessions in preparation for the carol service.
Building On
- Maths work from Year 3 – addition and subtraction with exchanges
- Instructions in Year 1 (how to make a jam sandwich, instructions in Year 2 and Year 3).
- Changing state – building on the science work on materials in KS1
Highlights of the week for the children
- Science – making ice-cream!
- P.E. – working on the apparatus
- Maths with Mrs Riddell - Arithmetic
- Learning Fred’s method in maths (the one above)
- Writing and publishing my biography
- Painting and then writing instructions for the artwork
Looking forward:
This week, we will be learning more about explanations in English. We will be looking at length in maths, perimeter in particular.
In the afternoons we will be; exploring Flowol, having fun with chocolate, rehearsing the carols, creating gymnastic sequences of movement and some rather fabulous art work.
