Looking Back and Forth Friday 10th September

Friday 10th September – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the class have settled into Year 4 life wonderfully.  We have completed quite a lot of assessments to see where the children are in their learning.  We have also begun a new book in English called The Journey.  The children haven’t actually read the book yet, but have spent time puzzling out the plot with some objects, pictures and clues.  It has been wonderful to see them thinking and trying to make connections.  In the afternoons, the children recapped on their knowledge of French, on their world geography as well as creating some super RESPECT handprints.

To top it all off, we had a great Tag Rugby session with Mr Biggs today on the field this afternoon.

We have talked to the class a lot this week about the concept of learning being a process of ‘building on’ their previous knowledge.  You may hear them mention ‘building on’ and if so – brilliant!

Questions to ask at home

  • What objects were in the suitcase?
  • What do you think the story – The Journey is about?
  • What was on the bridge near Singapore?
  • Who is duck?
  • What does respect mean?

Looking forward:

This week, the children will be continuing their work on the book the Journey.  This week we will read it.  In the maths, we will be looking at place value of numbers to 10,000.  In the afternoons, the children will be continuing their work on Europe, electricity and writing for different audiences in Computing.
