Looking back and forth

Y2 Friday 19th January 2024– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:  This week we have been identifying the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and saw examples of how shapes can be used in textiles work. We have identified the features of a setting narrative and will use these in our own writing.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I enjoyed PE.  We were throwing and catching and doing star jumps.  I was jogging a lot and I felt very tired at the end!

  • I liked doing maths.  I liked using the shapes and objects.  I liked looking at all the shapes and working out all about them.

  • I liked Geography and science were all about the Great Fire of  London.  I learnt that it started in Pudding Lane in 1666.

  • We are starting a new story called The Night Grden.  I liked writing sentences about it and I am looking forward to writing and learning more about it next week.

  • "I liked Maths – doing the number work".

Family discussion questions:

  • In maths we have identified the properties of 2D and 3D shapes- can you find examples of shapes in real life? Talk about the properties – how many sides or faces? Edges? Vertices? Lines of symmetry.
  • In science, we have discussed how to change the shape of an object by bending, twisting, stretching and squashing them- which objects can you find to change the shape of?

Looking forward:

Next week we will planning and writing our own setting narrative.  In maths, we will be looking at strategies for multiplication.

PE is on FRIDAYS! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the children who received certificates this week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Warhurst
