Reception class update Friday 8th November 2024

First week back after the half term break and we have had another fun and busy week.
Our theme was bonfire night and I told the children the story of the gunpowder plot and why we celebrate bonfire night. We acted out the story and that’s why many had crowns when they left school. The writing activity was sounding out cvc or initial sound words related to bonfire night.

The children created firework pictures using pastels and glitter.

In maths we are looking at 2D shapes and learning their names.

We continue with phonics each morning and this week the children have added writing to this session. They each have their own whiteboard, pen and cloth and we are working at correct pencil grip, letter formation and hand strength. They love working on the boards and trying their very best. I apologise for black marks on jumpers but they are reminded every time to try not to put pen marks on their clothes.

On Thursday afternoon we had a visit from a monk and two nuns. They are visiting from Thailand. Please read more about this in the newsletter.

Have you made a note of the nativity performances? They are on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th of December at 9:30am. Each child will get two tickets per performance.

Next week we will be learning about Diwali.

Have a good weekend
