Reception class update week ending 28th February
What a lovely day it is today the 1st of March. I am sitting at my desk at home looking out the window at the beautiful blue sky. I hope you are all have a good weekend so far!
The children have seem to have grown over the half term holiday and they settled back quickly into the school routine. This week we started our learning theme "All Around Us" with a walk to the junior site and we looked at all the features we passed on the way. Our task was to be able to tell someone how to get to the Junior site from the Infants. The children each drew a map with everything they could remember they had seen and passed.
In maths we have worked on number bonds to 10 using the unifix blocks and we recorded these in the maths books. In Art we have finished off the Mother's Day suprise.
The children spent a lot of time outdoors this week and we had fun in the woods too. They love going and so many lovely adventures happen when we are playing there. We have been chased by foxes and werewolves, hidden from bears, built bonfires (which they think we are going to set fire to at some point) and dug for bugs. A stick in a child's hand is many things from a trusty sword to a general bashing tool.
Please could I ask you not to put juice into bottles coming into school. Only water or flavoured water please.
Regarding lunch I would just like to mention that some children are choosing the same meal every day each week. I do my very best to persude them to try something else and I generally know what they like to eat and what they don't so work around that. The menu choices are on the website if you want to discuss their choice before they come to school. It is Week 2 this coming week.
During this half term I will be taking the children to look around St Luke's church as part of the RE curriculum. Look out for the survey which will come through Spider to get your permission. We generally spend our time exploring every nook and cranny inside the building and have time to chat with Rev Christine.
