Reception class weekly update 1 December 2024
Hello all
Forest school morning on Friday was just fabulous. The children were so engaged and interested in all that Mr Hatfield had to show, teach and share with them. The first chat was about skulls and animal coverings. They then built a hedgehog shelter for the winter and went on an insect dig to feed the hedgehog. They had to work in pairs to find slugs, worms and bugs which went into a box. Everyone had a go at using the flint and steel firelighters to get a spark. This had a knack to it and some of the children managed to get a spark which is known as the dragon's breath. Later the children enjoyed roasting marshmellows over a small fire too. The last activity was for them to build a little shelter for their action figures. Some children went all out and got sticks and twigs while others just covered theirs with leaves. Safe to say the figures were sheltered one way or another.
This week we have started doing Christmas crafts and painting Father Christmas. Their Father Christmas' will be up on display as soon as they added his beard and belt.
In maths we have been working on additon and in writing we have now learnt the correct way to form: a,c,d,e,f,i,j,l,h,n,m,o,t.
On Thursday they each did foot and hand prints. Some will go into their art book for the printing page and some will be used to make a Christmas card.
On Wednesday I sorted out their places on stage for the nativity. We will have two practices on stage this week to get them used to the show. We continue to have singing practices each day.
