Reception looking back and forth week ending 21 January 22
Hello all
This week we have learnt about hearing and the ear. We can definitely all hear but we may not all listen :-)
I hope that the children showed you how the ear works with the actions they learnt in class.
"You catch the sound with your ear lobes, the message passes down the canal and hits the ear drum which vibrates. This makes the 3 small bones move which then makes the "water" in the cochlea move the hairs which take the message to the brain."
Ask them how small the bones are? Can they remember one of these bones names? (hammer, anvil and stirrup)
On Wednesday we made ice sculptures. The children went to the woods to collect foliage and natural things to put in their pot. We filled the pots with water and left them outside to freeze overnight. The results were beautiful and we hung them on the rope bridge to melt.
In art they drew line drawings and they drew skeletons. Fabulous drawings which blew us away! We also looked at a different type of printing and we went out onto the school field to do frosty footprints on Thursday morning.
The writing this week has been about "Me!". They wrote 3 or 4 sentences about themselves. They started by describing the colour of their eyes and hair then wrote about something they liked doing. Some wrote about their pet/s. They then drew a picture.
We continue to work on writing their full names correctly and this is going well.
Next week we are going to learn about the sense of touch.
