Reception Looking back and forth week ending 4th December
Hello all
Another busy week for us and the countdown to Christmas has begun. We have an advent calendar set up and each child will bring home a chocolate coin before we close on the 18th.
This week we did an extended writing task and my objective was to see how much the children could recall of the story “Star in the Jar” and I scribed some of it and they write some simple sentences themselves. I am pleased with their recall and also how they are using their knowledge of tricky words like: the/he/was. I am working hard at getting them fluent with writing sounds. So for example I might sound out the word “sad: s -a-d” and they write it but some children are still asking me what certain letters look like. If you want an activity to do at home then here is an opportunity to ask them to write individual letters as you call them out.
In maths we continued with problem solving and number formation.
They have all painted a Santa and these are displayed in class. (I will add a photo, to this news feed, of the display when I am back in school on Monday.) They have also had hand and foot prints taken for the Christmas cards which will come home for the holidays.
The children are doing so well at lunchtimes with choosing their meal, carrying their trays to the table, eating and then clearing their tray of cup and cutlery at the end of the meal. Great job everyone!
We have bought lots of new outdoor play equipment for their lunchtime play so their is plenty to keep them busy however their main love is running around or chasing each. They are a very active group of happy children.
Next week we are writing letters to Santa and I will send a copy home for you to see.
We recorded Frosty the Snowman on Monday. Please check you child’s bag for the CD order form. If you require another form please let me know and I can email it to you.
Just a note about Christmas cards: If your child would like to give the other children in the class then please have these in school by Friday. These will be quarantined and then sent home in the last week of term.
Have a good weekend!
