Reception looking back and forth week ending 6 May 2022
Friday 6th May 2022- Looking Back and Forth in Reception
Looking Back – what we have done this week
The highlight this week was the trip to Disneyland…. nope to the Post Office but honestly my feeling is, don’t waste your money on a trip abroad when visiting the Post Office was the most exciting thing we could do. The walk there was wet and we made it back in the nick of time before the heavens truly opened. The children were so very well behaved and asked politely for a stamp and then chose their treat. We took a great group photo of them with Mrs Kettle (who ran the PO and shop for years and lives on site) and the children were amazed to hear she is nearly 100 years old. Our writing this week was based on the trip to the PO. They have all done a very good job writing more than three sentences each with enthusiasm.
Our literacy focus this week was around our new book. I read the The Extraordinary Gardener to them and then we discussed what we liked about the story. It is about a boy who grows the most amazing garden starting by planting an apple pip. It was then that I "remembered" I had a bag of magic seeds in my cupboard at home! I brought them in and gave each child their own seed. They held it and then blew on it and then gave it a shake and then they let their imagination decide what their magic seed might grow into. These ideas we will write down next week. Then one child suggested we plant some of the seeds which we did just before PE. Well they were beyond amazed and excited when they got back from PE and saw that the seeds had grown into plants! Their faces were a picture!
The children have enjoyed phonics especially today as we always play Bingo on a Friday. In PE they continue to learn ball skills and today the focus was on overarm throwing. In RE we recapped on the story of The Good Samaritan and then each coloured in a helping hand and said how we like to help at home. These helping hands we put up in the class around our world map.
Looking forward to next week’s learning:
We will be writing our Extraordinary Gardener ideas in a story. We will also be visiting St Luke’s church on Thursday afternoon. I will get you to sign the class list next week to give your permission.
