Reception update week ending Friday 11th November 2022
Hello all
Our focus this week has been all about Diwali. I showed the children where India is on the map and we told them that it is Hindu people that celebrate Diwali which is know as the Festival of Light. They heard the story of Rama and Sita. Hopefully they have retold it to you and you have heard how Sita was taken by the evil Ravana (he had 10 heads) and then was rescued. This is the symbol of good over evil. The children have made diva lamps with clay and these will be painted and decorated next week once they are dry. Today Oscar's mum came in to talk to the children about Diwali and what families do to celebrate. They also created rangoli patterns outside. They also dressed up in tradition Indian clothes which they absolutely loved. All the children where given two sweets, which are in their bags, as part of the celebrations.
In writing this week the children wrote a sentence about their favourite part of the story. They drew a picture too and did a sequencing activity. In maths we worked on counting and numberbonds to 10.
Have a good weekend.
