we 23rd September in Year 1
Hi All,
The children are getting to be quite the experts of Year 1 now.
This week we are going to continue with our Literacy topic about ‘Lists, Captions and Labels’. We are looking at the text ‘It’s not a stick’ and the story Billy’s Bucket. We are focusing on creating descriptive sentences.
So instead of
‘That is not a stick it is a sword’.
We want…
‘That is not a stick it is a shiny, sharp sword that defeats large scaly red dragons’.
In maths we will continue with our work on Counting and Place Value. Making sure we are confident with our numbers up to 20 and beyond.
Looking at teens and how they are made up, as well as looking at estimating.
In the afternoons continue with the topic ‘Our Body’ in science, we will be exploring our senses.
Don’t forget to read the newsletter for important information and dates.
There is a Phonics Evening on for Reception parents on Monday at 6pm. Mrs Flint has said that any Year 1 parents who wish to have a refresher – or want to see how phonics is taught at Goostrey are more than welcome.
Highlights the week by the children-
- Writing in phonics
- Dough disco
- Mrs Hemmings coming in and the balloon heads!
- Working on the creative table
- Everything!
