Y1 Friday 11th December 2020– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
We have had a great week in Year 1- everyone has worked so hard this week and have enjoyed their well-deserved marble jar treat this afternoon!
In Maths we have continued to look at subtraction before exploring the names and properties of 2D shapes.
In English we have written our instructions for how to trap a witch.
In PE we have continued to look at movement, making space, balance and incorporated the use of a bat and bean bag/ball.
In PHSE we have explored the notion that boys and girls can play any game together and we can have our own likes regardless of our gender using the book ‘Ten Little Pirates’ to support this theme.
In DT we have continued our quilling project and looked at different moving books and pictures.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Writing instructions for how to trap a witch.
√ Continuing with our quilling project.
√ Making Christmas 2D shape pictures and identifying their properties.
√ Learning to read and write new sounds in Phonics ‘oy and ir’.
√ Balancing and movement using equipment in PE.
√ Looking at our likes and dislikes regardless of gender in PHSE.
√ Using a numberline to count backwards.
√ Eating our delicious Christmas Dinner.
√ Enjoying our well-deserved Marble Jar Treat.
Family discussion questions:
- Can you see any 2D shapes in your house?
- Can you instruct your parents to do something? What imperative verbs did you use?
- Can you spot any of this week’s sounds in your reading books?’ie, ea and oy’.
Looking forward:
Next week we will publish our instructions for how to trap a witch.
In Maths we will look at 3D shapes.
In DT we will make moving pictures and continue with our Christmas crafts.
In PHSE we will use The Cherry Coloured Coat pack to explore many themes including, kindness and how we are different but still similar in lots of ways.
Reminders:
- Peter Pan Pantomime on Monday14th December – party clothes can be worn.
- Christmas Shop next week-The children will have the chance to visit the Christmas Shop next week but we are asking for all their money to be in ON MONDAY 14th December (In a named envelope where possible). We will make a note of how much each child has brought in and then we can make sure they get the right amount of gifts when they visit the shop. To make it easier for the children to bring in the correct money every gift is £2.50—maximum 4 gifts per child. Pupils will need to bring the correct amount of cash in and no change can be given. They will need their own bag to take their gifts home in. The gifts were brought in to school a few days ago and have had to stay untouched until we sell them.
- Spelling and handwriting homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in the following Friday. Handwriting is based on the letter we have practised in school and the spellings are based on what we have looked at in school including High Frequency Words (HFW) or Common Exception Words (CEW) from the Year 1 spelling list. I will send 3 or 5 spellings home; this amount can be changed weekly dependent on how well they are retained by the children and will be tested informally on a Friday morning. This is nothing to worry about and gives children experience of homework before Year 2 and helps with their Year 1 handwriting and spelling expectations. HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY 8TH JANUARY.
- Please bring books in on Thursday’s but I will keep these until Friday morning to change them (do not worry about the reading challenge- this will still be counted).
- Please continue to read every night and practise the sound cards. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge. Reading Challenge’s will be awarded on Thursday’s after checking Reading Diaries- these will start afresh again the first week back so any reading over the holidays will count towards the new term.
- Once school finishes next Friday, if your child tests positive for Covid, and was in school during the 48 hours before their first symptoms developed, or before they took the test if they did not have any symptoms, we are asking that you let us know so we can assist Track and Trace with close contacts in school. Please email: head@goostrey.cheshire.sch.uk, with this information. We will then let any families, who may be affected from close contact in school know by email as soon as possible. However, as it is the holidays, for all staff, we will only be checking our emails once a day, as DfE guidance has made it clear we are not expected to be on call 24 / 7. Similarly, the DfE are not expecting schools to assist with Track and Trace after the 23rd December, for the rest of the holiday period.
If you have any questions please ask
Thank you for your continued support
