Y1 Friday 12th July 2019– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
This week we have written a fact file about Neil Armstrong and the moon landing. In Maths we have looked at time to the hour and half an hour.
We have compared the human and physical features of Goostrey to Houston. We measured our bean plants for the last time and were surprised by the changes to them.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Learning to tell the time in maths.
√ Identifying human and physical features of Goostrey and compared them to Houston.
√ Writing a historical fact file about Neil Armstrong and the moon landing.
√ Measuring our bean plants and seeing how they changed.
√ Having our last week with Hamilton in Year 1.
√ Looked at photos of the Apollo 11 Mission and explored the differences in space suits over the years.
Family discussion questions:
- What was Neil Armstrong’s job before he became an astronaut? How long did it take to get to the moon? Can you remember the date?
- What happens to the small hand when it is half past the hour?
- What physical features are the same in Goostrey and Houston? What human features are different in Houston compared to Goostrey?
Looking forward:
Next week it is transition week so we will be doing alien crafts and making and racing our moon buggies.
We will be consolidating our learning of Geography and History with vocabulary quizzes too.
