Y1 Friday 12th November 2021– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
We have had a busy and productive week this week in Year 1!
In Maths we have begun to look fact families and how to record them systematically to check we have found them all- we have used part whole modes and tens frames with counters and recorded formal number sentences.
In English we have analysed the story of ‘Rapunzel’, looked at features we could use in our writing and begun to plan our story.
In Geography we have identified what a; town, village, city and coastline are like and begun to look at human and physical features we would find there.
In Science looking at trees in summer and comparing them to what they are like in autumn.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Identifying features within the story of Rapunzel.
√ Planning our story using pictures from the story map.
√ Using part whole models to help us when adding.
√ Thinking different ways to make pairs up to 10.
√ Looking at photos of towns, villages, cities and coastlines to identify their features.
√ Learning what ‘human’ and ‘physical’ features are.
√ Enjoying an interesting assembly all about bats.
√ Identifying the differences between trees in summer to autumn.
√ Beginning to learn songs for the Nativity.
√ Continuing to look at the Christmas Story in RE.
√ Making shapes and balancing in PE.
√ Singing along to songs and making sounds with our bodies in time with the music.
√ Understanding why we wear a poppy on Remembrance Day.
Family discussion questions:
- What is a human feature? What is a physical feature? Can you spot any this weekend?
- What are the numbers bonds to 7? Start with 7+0 = 7. Should they go in an order?
- What time openers could you use in your story? EG- On Monday, later that day.
Looking forward:
Next week we will be looking at the features of writing in Traditional Tales and begin writing our story of ‘Rapunzel’.
In Maths we will begin to look at number bonds to 10.
In Geography we will continue to look at the human and physical features of a town, village, city and coastline.
Reminders:
Spelling and handwriting homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in the following Friday. Handwriting is based on the letter we have practised in school and the spellings are based on what we have looked at in school including High Frequency Words (HFW) or Common Exception Words (CEW) from the Year 1 spelling list. I will send 3 or 5 spellings home; this amount can be changed weekly dependent on how well they are retained by the children and will be tested informally on a Friday morning. This is nothing to worry about and gives children experience of homework before Year 2 and helps with their Year 1 handwriting and spelling expectations.
Book change on Thursday.
Please continue to read every night and practise the sound cards. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge.
Family Christmas Hampers-The big fundraiser this Christmas is a raffle for Christmas Hampers which each class will be putting together from donation from parents. Please look out for information on your Facebook class page. Each hamper will include goodies such as; soft toys, family games, festive biscuits, chocolates and drinks, toiletries and Christmas decorations and a star prize. Each class will be selling raffle tickets to the children so they have the chance to win their own class hamper. We are asking for donations by 15 November so we can arrange the hampers and commence the raffle from 29 November for two weeks and will confirm the date of the final draw. Raffle tickets will be £1 (cash) a strip and families can buy as many strips as they want. Please bring donations for the raffle to school to your children's class and they will be stored in the Sunshine Room. If you are bringing any alcoholic items please leave in reception with Mrs Carroll marked with the class number.
Year 6- TeamSeas
After following Team Seas ventures, we have decided to organise a CupULike to raise money for this worthy cause. We could do with your help.
If you could donate sweets on week beginning the 15th of November. (Please make sure they are small sweets or chocolate that could fit in a small cup.)
We will then create the cups and sell them the on the 1st December for the juniors and 2nd infants. The cups will be £1 each and we will sell them straight after school. For every £1 we make, TeamSeas will clean a pound of plastic from the oceans
If you have any questions please ask
