Y1 Friday 14th February 2020– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
We have explored different methods to help us to add and subtract in Maths. To consolidate our History learning we have thought about how Captain Scott felt and created a knowledge summary of all of our learning- the children have really enjoyed this!
We have layered materials to make cold collages and used pastels to draw lines to create texture for our polar bear creations.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ performing our dance routine in PE.
√ learning greetings and colours in Makaton.
√ using a tens frame, part whole model and number line to subtract.
√ realising how special we are and that it is ok to be different during our ‘Equality and Diversity afternoon’.
√ cold colour sorting and making our collages.
√ consolidating our History and Science learning through quizzes.
√ achieving reading challenges.
Family discussion questions:
- How did Captain Scott feel on his Terra Nova expedition?
- What signs of winter have you seen this week?
- Do ‘come’ and ‘there’ contain split diagraphs?
Looking forward:
Next half term we will be writing instructions and letters in English. In Maths we will continue to look at Place Value to 50 and measure.
In History we will be learning about Sir Bernard Lovell and his telescope, alongside other megsatructures, and understand how this played a part in the moon landing before exploring Neil Armstrong as another significant person.
Science this term relates to plants, trees and wildlife in our school grounds.
