Y1 Friday 15th February 2019 – Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
What a wonderful school trip we had to Jodrell Bank. The children were impeccably behaved and incredibly enthusiastic!
This week, we wrote winter senses poems using thoughtful adjectives to describe and create imagery. We have used lots of practical equipment to grasp the tricky concept of crossing 10 when subtracting.
In Art, we have completed our ‘Kandinksy inspired’ trees ready for the art exhibition on Tuesday 5th March 3:15 – 6pm. (see the newsletter for information).
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Our trip to Jodrell Bank.
- Using practical equipment to help when subtracting and crossing 10.
- Constructing our ‘Kandinsky trees’.
- Writing our winter senses poem.
- Sharing our knowledge and learnt vocabulary related to the seasons during our ‘Science Quiz Quiz Trade’ afternoon.
Family discussion questions:
- 14- 6= ? What can you do to help you solve this? (think of part whole model to partition the 6)
- Can you remember any facts we learnt at Jodrell Bank?
- How many adjectives can you think of as an alternative to pretty?
Looking forward:
After half term, we will be writing non-fiction and fiction recounts. In Maths, we will use our knowledge of place value and build on this further using bigger two digit numbers.
We will be learning about Sir Bernard Lovell and the Lovell Telescope, in History.
In Science, we will be looking at materials and doing experiments to test which materials would be best used for a megastructure.
Homework in Year 1
Spellings and handwriting (Set 15.2.19; Due 1.3.19)
Have an enjoyable and restful half term break and thank you for all of your hard work this half term!
