Y1 Friday 17th May 2024– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
Another super week in Year 1!
In English we are continuing to use the book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ to inspire our work. We have sequenced the story, highlighted features of the text and completed a plan for our own ‘portal narrative’ story.
In Maths we have made equal groups by grouping and sharing.
In Geography we have identified human and physical features in our school grounds.
In Science constructed a tree using our bark rubbings and leaves and named the different parts trees have. We have learnt what an Evergreen and Deciduous tree is and identified them.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Making equal groups by grouping and sharing counters.
√ Sequencing the story of ‘Where the Wild Things are’ in order with pictures from the book.
√ Identifying features of the model ‘portal narrative’.
√ Planning our ‘portal narrative’ story.
√ Identifying parts of a tree whilst constructing it.
√ Writing and reading words with the alternative ‘or’ sounds.
√ Identifying human and physical features in our school grounds.
√ Bouncing the ball to your partner so they could hit the ball then both using a racket to hit the ball to each other in tennis in PE.
√ Learning about stain glass windows in a synagogue and about Jewish traditions in RE.
√ Creating our Kandinsky artwork.
Family discussion questions:
- What trees can you see in your garden or on a walk?
- Can you correct my spellings? ‘lighk’, ‘sed’ and ‘peeple’
- Can you make equal groups out of 12? How can you do this?
Looking forward:
Next week we will write our portal narrative story.
In Maths consolidate our learning of multiplication and division.
In D and T we will be making our sandwiches with some ingredients from plants and evaluating them.
- Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday
- Homework is spellings to learn and phonics word sorting based on our learning from this week. This will be marked together so any misconceptions can be address. Please complete this in pencil.
- PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.
- Blue Planet Aquarium trip Tuesday 26th
- Village walk Tuesday 2nd July- volunteers needed to enable us to do this. Thank you!
If you have any questions please ask.
Thanks again for your continued support.
Kind regards and take care
