Y1 Friday 1st February 2018 – Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
This week, we have published our summer and winter information text. We have been partitioning tens and ones when adding and using this to solve problems. We have been weather detectives and keeping a diary of weather changes throughout the week.
In Art, we have used Kandinsky to inspire our season’s artwork.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- Keeping diaries of the weather throughout the week and looking at the similarities and differences.
- Continuing our Kandinsky artwork.
- Learning which colours are ‘hot’ and ‘cold’.
- Using practical equipment to help us when adding numbers together.
- Using our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help us find number bonds to 20.
- Performing ‘The Snow Drop’ poem with Mrs Hamilton.
Family discussion questions:
- Which number when added to 3 makes 20? (using number bonds to 10 to help)
- What has the weather been like today? How is this different to summer?
- What adjective could you use instead of big?
Looking forward:
Next week, we will be using our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help us learn number bonds to 20 and using this to solve problems. We will also begin to look at subtraction as the inverse of addition. In English, we will be using our ‘Wildlife Writing Week’ as a stimulus for spring poetry.
We will continue with our ‘Kandinksy inspired’ artwork.
