Y1 Friday 20th September 2024– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

Wow what a great week we have had- lots more independence and super work!

In Maths we have counted objects and moved onto larger groups whilst thinking about ’the why’ when answering problems.

In English we have used the book ‘Dangerous’ as inspiration for our writing. We have identified appropriate labels for given pictures and begun to think carefully about adjectives we could use to make our simple captions more exciting.

As part of Science and Geography we have learnt about each season and completed a season wheel.

We have started to draw our self portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo and created lots of collage pictures.

We are very close to earning our first marble jar treat!

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Counting objects in different sizes groups.

√ Writing and identifying adjectives.

√ Continuing to revisit Phase 3 sounds and using ‘dots and dashes’ to identify sounds (dots for a single letter and dashes for 2 letters that make one sound).

√ Learning about the seasons.

√ Creating collages using materials of different textures.

√ Practising dribbling skills as part of football in PE.

√ ? in French?

√ ? in RE.

Family discussion questions:

  • What is the purpose of a label?
  • What order should these numbers be in? Why? 11, 9, 2, 15
  • Which season is the coldest? Warmest?

Looking forward:

Next week we will continue to use the book ‘Dangerous’ as inspiration to write adjectives and captions about our friends.

In Maths we will be representing numbers in different ways and writing numbers as words.

In Science we will be collecting data in a tally chart and recording this in a pictogram using the laptops.

Reminders:

Reading books should be brought into school each Thursday so they can be changed overnight. They will be given back each Friday.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 1. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’- If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track their progress (They will automatically get a read for Thursday night when I keep the books).

If you have any questions, please ask.

Thank you for your continued support.
