Y1 Friday 21st June 2019– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
This week we have written instructions for how to dress an astronaut. In Maths we have compared two digit numbers and solved problems using the language of more or less.
We have looked at the parts of a plant in Science.
We explored artwork; looking at the techniques used and the feelings the picture provoked. As a result of this we have painted bird boxes to make a home for the bird in the picture.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Making a safe home for the birds based on the picture we looked at.
√ Practising throwing, catching and aiming skills in PE.
√ Writing instructions for how to dress an astronaut.
√ Learning a dance with Garcia from ElizabethFontein (She is a wonderful dancer!)
√ Showing off our expertise in Maths based on place value.
√ Making a flower to show the different parts of a plant.
Family discussion questions:
- What are the parts of a plant?
- Which number is the odd one out? 73, 13 or 80. Why?
- Can you remember how to make a jam sandwich? What imperative verbs did you use?
Looking forward:
Next week we will be making astronaut food and writing instructions for how to do this. In Maths we will be exploring money.
We will be looking at the parts of a tree in Science and learning about the moon landing in History.
