Y1 Friday 21st March 2025– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
In English we have written our own detective story.
In Maths we have used a number line to count to 50 and used this skill to help us to estimate where missing numbers fit.
In History we have looked a photographs of the Moon Landing and decided as a group questions that we would like to find out answers to.
In Science we have named and identified common garden and wild plants.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Repeating and saying colours in French.
√ Completing missing numbers on number line and estimating where missing numbers go based on their position.
√ Hitting a ball back and forth to our partner as part of tennis in PE.
√ Finding one more and one less than given numbers to 50.
√ Working hard to read and write words saying ‘ou as in ow’.
√ Exploring photographs to generate questions in History.
√ Identifying and naming common garden and wild plants in Science.
√ Writing the story of our detective animal.
√ Learning about The Last Supper in RE.
Family discussion questions:
- What questions did you generate about the Moon Landing?
- What is my mistake? 36, 37, 39, 40. 45 has 5 ones and 5 tens- true or false?
- What kind things could you do at school and at home? How should you react to unkind acts?
Looking forward:
Next week we will be finishing our detective stories.
In Maths we will be consolidating our learning by completing our Place Value to 50 quiz and begin our length and height unit in Maths.
In Art and Design and Technology we will begin to construct our birdhouses.
In Science we will look at characteristics of animals and sort them into different groups based on this.
Homework
- Spelling and phonics homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in the following Friday. Phonics is based on the sound we have practised in school and the spellings are based on what we have looked at in school including High Frequency Words (HFW) or Common Exception Words (CEW) from the Year 1 spelling list. I will send 5 spellings home and these will be tested informally on a Friday morning. This really helps to reinforce the sounds we have been working on in class and enables the children to use the sounds / words in their writing. Homework due Friday.
- Please continue to read every night. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge. Reading Challenge’s will be awarded on Friday’s after checking Reading Diaries on Thursday after school. If you have any questions please ask.
