Y1 Friday 28th January 2022– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
In English we have written a finding story, including adjectives, ‘ed’ endings and ‘and’ to join ideas.
In Maths we have compared groups of objects and numbers.
In Science we explored our sense of touch using feely bags, hearing using sound bites and sight through an un-nature walk (spotting things that don’t belong in our outdoor environment).
In computing we have continued to code by instructing ‘the bee’ to move and used the laptops to complete pictograms based on results from our tally charts. We have also accessed the internet safely and interpreted pictogram results.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Writing our finding stories.
√ Using the conjunction ‘and’ to join ideas and words.
√ Adding ‘ed’ to verbs to write in the past tense.
√ Comparing groups of objects and numbers in Maths.
√ Using our knowledge of place value to solve problems.
√ Working together as a team in PE.
√ Putting our sense of sight, hearing and touch to the test in Science.
√ Exploring our feelings in PHSE.
√ Considering why Jesus was inspiring to the disciples in RE.
√ Identifying high and low pitch through singing in Music.
√ Using the laptops to input pictures into pictograms to show results.
√ Interpreting pictogram results.
√ Directing Beebots to move from one position to another following a path.
Family discussion questions:
- Correct this sentence- albert woz happee to see the dirtee bear under the wooden floorboards
- Order these numbers from greatest to least- 12, 8, 20, 10.
- Which sense would you use when eating? Do you use
Looking forward:
Next week we will finish writing our finding story. In Maths we will be consolidating our learning of Place Value before moving onto addition and subtraction within 20.
In Science we will be putting our sense of taste and smell to the test
In History we will compare toys from the past to now, thinking about similarities and differences and begin to look at simple timelines.
Homework in Year 1
- Spelling and handwriting homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in the following Friday. Handwriting is based on the letter we have practised in school and the spellings are based on what we have looked at in school including High Frequency Words (HFW) or Common Exception Words (CEW) from the Year 1 spelling list. I will send 3 or 5 spellings home; this amount can be changed weekly dependent on how well they are retained by the children and will be tested informally on a Friday morning. This really helps to reinforce the sounds we have been working on in class and enables the children to use the sounds / words in their writing. Homework due Friday 4.2.22.
- Please continue to read every night. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge. Reading Challenge’s will be awarded on Friday’s after checking Reading Diaries on Thursday after school. If you have any questions please ask.
Reminder
- Thank you to those of you that have replied to us- they are brilliant. If you have not already, please reply to our class letter with a letter about toys you had as a child (if this could be done by grandparents too that would be wonderful) and if you have a photo or can find one online, to show what your toy was like that would be helpful. These will be stuck into your child’s History book and read out across the weeks to the class. Thank you.
Thanks for your support
