Y1 Friday 2nd October 2020– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
Wow what a great week we have had- lots more independence and super work!
In Maths we have represented numbers in different ways and begun to consolidate our skills with ‘Ms Cummins Challenges’.
In English we have used the book ‘Dangerous’ as inspiration for our writing. We have identified appropriate captions and adjectives for given pictures and begun to think carefully about adjectives we could use to describe.
In Science we have labelled parts of the human body and in History we have written about our favourite toys.
In PHSE we have looked at the book Elmer. This helped us to think about what we like about ourselves and reflect on how we treat our friends. We talked about how we would make Elmer feel welcome in Year 1 and all of our good qualities.
Once again, great effort from all the children and we are very close to gaining our first marble jar treat!
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ counting and representing objects in different ways
√ Writing and identified adjectives.
√ Identifying and labelling parts of the human body.
√ Starting to look at CVCC words in phonics.
√ Maths games on the Ipads.
√ Labelling the features of our favourite toys.
√ Thinking about our qualities in PHSE.
√ Programming BeeBots to move in different directions.
√ Learning about the Creation Story in RE.
√ Repeating and saying colours in French.
Family discussion questions:
- What is the purpose of a label?
- What order should these numbers be in? Why? 11, 9, 2, 15
- I use my hands to do…?
Looking forward:
Next week we will continue to use the book ‘Dangerous’ as inspiration to write adjectives and captions about our friends.
In Maths we will be counting forwards and backwards.
We will look at toys from the past as a part of our ‘Tremendous Toys’ topic in history and in Science look at what parts of our bodies we use to do different things.
Reminders:
Book change on Thursday.
Please continue to read every night and practise the sound cards. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge.
Just to clarify, I have assessed all children this half term for reading and will be doing so continually during our reading sessions in class. I will move children to the next book band level based on their word level reading, ability to retell the story in detail, retrieve information from the text and answer inference questions based on what they have read. In relation to the Phase 3 phonics books and flash cards, I have noticed some gaps in our retention of all of these sounds, so these books and cards are purely for repetition / retention purposes. As I move further into the teaching of Phase 4 and 5 phonics the books will change in accordance.
If you have any questions please ask.
Thank you for your continued support
