Y1 Friday 31st January 2020– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
We have edited and published our work wiring about Emperor Penguins and Captain Scott’s Expedition. Each morning this week, we have taken part in singing with POP UK and are ready to perform next week!
In Science, we have conducted an ice experiment to see which materials would be best suited for a polar adventurer’s coat. In Art, we have continued to sketch parts of a polar bear.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Dancing in PE.
√ Working hard to learn to read spit diagraphs in Phonics.
√ Learning and practising the POP UK songs.
√ Recording the CD for POP UK.
√ Publishing our information writing about Captain Scott and Emperor penguins.
√ Creating cold colour collages.
√ Editing work to include capital letters.
√ Testing which materials are the best insulators using ice in Science.
Family discussion questions:
- How can you check if your writing makes sense?
- What does a split diagraph mean?
- Which material made the ice melt the fastest?
Looking forward:
Next week we will be thinking about how Captain Scott felt on his Antarctic Expedition and the conditions in Antarctica. In Maths, we will be looking at addition and subtraction up to 50.
In Science, we will be sorting and classifying objects based on their materials.
