Y1 Friday 3rd May 2024– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
Another great week in Year 1!
In English we have begun to explore ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ to inspire our writing.
In Maths we have identified and added together equal groups.
In Science we have dissected a flower-identified and named the parts before discovering what job each of the parts does. We hunted for trees and used a leaf spotting sheet to help us to identify and name them.
In Geography we have learnt about aerial views and used Lego to help us make a map of our classroom.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Counting to find equal groups.
√ Problem solving to make unequal groups equal by adding and taking away.
√ Dissecting flowers, identifying each part and their job.
√ Making predictions about what our story of the half term is about using pictures from the story.
√ Exploring the meaning of words and phrases as part of group.
√ Using a picture to inspire and generate adjectives to describe nouns.
√ Throwing tennis balls to a partner and hitting them with a racket in one hand in PE.
√ Recapping different graphemes that make the ‘oo’ and ‘yoo’ sounds.
√ Using Lego to make an aerial view map of our classroom.
√ Using a leaf spotting sheet to identify trees in our school grounds.
√ Learning about Shabbat (the Jewish day of rest) in RE.
Family discussion questions:
- What adjective could you use to describe the moon?
- Can you share 5 equally? Why not?
- What is an aerial view map?
Looking forward:
Next week we will begin analysing text based on ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, retrieving answers from the shared text and sequencing the story.
In Maths we will make arrays, doubles and make equal groups.
In Geography we will be exploring aerial view maps, looking at the positions of things in our playground before making or drawing an aerial view map of our infant site.
Reminders:
- Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday
- Homework is spellings to learn and phonics work based on our learning from this week. This will be marked together so any misconceptions can be address. Please complete this in pencil.
- PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.
If you have any questions please ask.
Thanks again for your continued support.
Kind regards and take care
