Y1 Friday 5th April 2019– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

This week we have been editing and publishing our letters about ‘The Everywhere Bear’. We have explored weight and capacity in Maths and consolidated our learning across Science, History and Geography.

In DT, we have been printing for our new class display.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Estimating using cubes and porridge oats when learning about capacity and weight.
  • Editing and publishing our letters.
  • Printing in the style of weaving.
  • Quiz Quiz Trade to show what we have learnt in History, Geography and Science this half term.

Family discussion questions:

  • Look at some containers- which do you think holds the most? Why?
  • What sound does the ‘c’ make when it is within a split diagraph?
  • How far can you get when counting in 2s, 5s and 10s? Can you remember what a multiple of 2 / 5 or 10 ends in?

Looking forward:

Next half term, we will be looking at multiplication (arrays) and division (sharing) in Maths. We will be writing and reading familiar stories and poems in English.

Our topic is ‘Goostrey and Beyond’- we will be looking at where we live and the moon landing.

Homework in Year 1

No Spellings or handwriting have been sent home.

I have sent phoneme spotter stories concentrating on alternative sounds. The children are encouraged to read the stories and highlight the sounds in each story and they have a pack of real/fake words to read. (They really enjoy this!)

For any parents that could not attend the Phonics Screening meetings, I have sent home the presentation for your information.

As always, please ask if you have any questions.

Thank you for your continued support. I hope you have a wonderful break!
