Y1 Friday 7th October 2022– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
What a week in Year 1- brilliant effort and learning by all!
In Maths we have counted on before finding one more of a given number. WE have begun to count backwards using number tracks.
In English we have put actions to a story map to help us learn facts for writing our fact file about Sir David Attenborough.
In Art we have used pastels to create textures and continued to use collage techniques for our exhibition art work.
In Geography we have identified warm, hot and cold places on a map of the world and learnt facts about the conditions in the hottest and coldest deserts in the world- Antarctica and the Sahara Desert. We have linked this to our Science learning by finding out facts about animals that live in these habitats.
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Putting actions to our Sir David Attenborough story map.
√ Writing facts about Sir David Attenborough.
√ Counting on from given number and finding one more.
√ Moving in different ways and staying on our feet in PE.
√ Learning about the conditions in Antarctica and the Sahara Desert.
√ Identifying hot, warm and cold places on a map of the world- in relation to the North Pole, South Pole and Equator.
√ Publishing work for exhibition.
√ Creating texture using pastels.
√ Combining textures to crate collages for exhibition.
√ Learning about Christianity in RE.
√ Learning the words to ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ song in French.
Family discussion questions:
- One more than ___ is ____. 9 is one more than ____ .
- Recall facts about the conditions in Antarctica.
- Should the words ‘Sir David Attenborough’ and ‘Sahara Desert’ have a capital letter? Why?
Looking forward:
Next week we will continue to write facts about Sir David Attenborough and publish our work for exhibition.
In Maths we will be finding one less than a given number. We will be comparing numbers using language of ‘same, fewer, more’ before moving onto the language of ‘more than, less than and equal to’.
