Y1 Friday 9th December 2022

 Y1 Friday 9th December 2022– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

We have had a great week in Year 1- everyone has worked so hard this week and have enjoyed practising for our Christmas performance.

In English we have written instructions for how to trap a witch.

In DT we have continued our quilling project and looked at different moving books and pictures.

We have consolidated our autumn 2 learning by completing quizzes.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Learning how to use our character strengths to help us be the best we can be during our Happy Mind lesson.

√ Showing how well we have learnt our spellings in our spelling test.

√ Looking at moving books to see what features they have to help us when making our moving pictures.

√ Writing our instructions for how to trap a witch.

√ Quilling for our Christmas cards.

√ Consolidating our learning this half term through quizzes.

√ Practising for our Christmas performance.

√ Moving in different ways, balancing and landing in PE.

Family discussion questions:

  • What are the different elements to moving pictures and books?
  • Can you name the 4 countries of the UK?
  • Can you spot any consonant blends in your reading books?

Looking forward:

Next week we will look at subtraction in Maths.

In DT we will make moving pictures and continue with our Christmas crafts.

We cannot wait for you to see our Christmas performance- we have been working so hard!

Reminders:

  • Raffle ticket money to be brought into class from Monday 5th December £1 per strip.

  • Nativity for Y1 families to watch- Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th December 9:30am start-Christmas tops for the performance.

  • Christmas Dinner day Wednesday 14th December.

  • Christmas Jumper Day Friday 16th December and Christmas Film afternoon.

  • Class Christmas cards to be handed into me by Monday 12th December- these will be handed out on the last week of term.

  • Spelling and handwriting/phonics homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in the following Friday. Handwriting is based on the letter we have practised in school and the spellings are based on what we have looked at in school including High Frequency Words (HFW) or Common Exception Words (CEW) from the Year 1 spelling list. I will send 3 or 5 spellings home; this amount can be changed weekly dependent on how well they are retained by the children and will be tested informally on a Friday morning. This is nothing to worry about and gives children experience of homework before Year 2 and helps with their Year 1 handwriting and spelling expectations. HOMEWORK DUE FRIDAY 6TH

  • Please bring books in on Thursday’s but I will keep these until Friday morning to change them (do not worry about the reading challenge- this will still be counted).

  • Please continue to read every night. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge. Reading Challenge’s will be awarded on Thursday’s after checking Reading Diaries- these will start afresh again the first week back so any reading over the holidays will count towards the new term.
