Y1 Friday 9th October 2020– Looking Back & Forth
Looking back:
Another fantastic week in Year 1- great independent work and attitude to learning!
In Maths we have counted forwards and backwards and found one more and one less than a given number. We have continued to show our understanding through ‘Ms Cummins Challenges’.
In English we have used adjectives to describe our friends and put these ideas into sentences including capital letters and full stops.
In Science we considered how our body is used and in History we looked at Victorian toys and described them.
Today we have enjoyed our first marble jar treat after gaining 20 marbles- 30 next time!
Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:
√ Learning about consonants and vowels in Phonics (CVCC words).
√ Writing about our friends.
√ Thinking about how are bodies move and what we use parts of our bodies for.
√ Learning about Victorian toys.
√ Counting forwards and backwards.
√ Finding one more and one less than a given number.
√ Moving and finding space in PE.
√ Completing ‘Ms Cummins Challenges’ in Maths.
√ Achieving our marble jar treat this afternoon.
Family discussion questions:
- What were Victorian toys normally made from?
- What was the difference between ‘rich’ and ‘poor’ children in Victorian times?
- ___ is one more than ___? __ is one less than __?
Looking forward:
Next week we will begin looking at a book about toys ‘Major Glad, Major Dizzy’, before looking at Alberts adventure.
In Maths we will be comparing objects and numbers.
In History we will look letters from our parents and grandparents and consider similarities and differences between toys now and in the past.
Reminders:
Book change on Thursday.
Please continue to read every night and practise the sound cards. If this could be recorded in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge.
If you could send in or email a letter in reply to our class letter about your toy or any Grandparents toys that would be great, if you could include any photos that would help as we will be using this in our lesson next week.
If you have any questions please ask
Thank you for your continued support
