Y2 Looking back and forth 2nd April

Friday 2nd April 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

What a great week, Year 2!

In English the children finished writing their own version of the book, Oliver and Patch. They used fantastic noun phrases and made super word choices to make their writing interesting. They really enjoyed this book.

In Maths the children used all their knowledge so far to solve problems and show off their knowledge if arithmetic.  In science we discovered how food chains work. The children used their knowledge of habitats to explore outside in the sunny weather. They were amazed at the amount of ladybirds they could find.

We have also been active in gymnastics and spent lots of time outside. We continued to work on friendship skills and problem solving together.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Food chains
  • Maths booklets
  • Oliver and Patch stories
  • PE
  • Golden Time
  • Having lunch with my friends
  • Seeing my friends out in the playground
  • Finding things in common with other people in my class

Family discussion questions:

  • How do food chains work?
  • What is a good friend and how do they treat you?

Looking forward:

  1. Reading books are changed on Mondays – but please ensure your child has their pack with them every day
  2. A new story in English
  3. Problem solving in maths
  4. Geometry and shape
  5. Friendship activities
  6. Reading comprehension

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths: please use this website over the holiday. They are fun games to help your child keep their maths skills fluent.

Choose number bonds to ten and play the game – select the correct number to make 10.

You can also use this game to test your times tables knowledge. Choose from 2, 5 or 10 times tables and select “hit the answer”.

See how much you can improve your scores!
