Y3 Looking Back and Forth 11/6/21

Friday 11th June 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

What a brilliant first week back we have had and some beautiful sunshine has lit up lots of happy faces. We have enjoyed beginning our work on time this week, recapping our knowledge and moving on to rapping our months of the year rhyme to help calculate some quite tricky problems. We have also worked outside to help us divide by 10 and 100 for our arithmetic session - great fun! English has seen us launch our new book and has really made us think as we have stepped inside some very interesting images and created our own freeze-frames – great drama work everyone! Our topic of Africa in Geography is going really well and we have loved using Google Earth to guide the creation of our own sketch maps. We completed our estate agent writing in History, in PE we gave it our all as we raced against our class mates on the newly-painted track and finally, we really enjoyed our presentation afternoon where we shared some of our inspirational people – more to come throughout nest week too…can’t wait!

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Drawing our sketch maps
  • Using Google Earth to find Elizabethfontein school
  • Accelerated Reader assessment
  • Stepping into our new book
  • Enjoying the sunny weather and playing on the field!
  • Racing with Mr Townsend
  • Creating our freeze frames
  • Sharing our inspirational people projects
  • Starting our new Science topic all about plants
  • Everything!!!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • What is a sketch map?
  • What is the landscape like around Elizabethfontein?
  • What is the rhyme you rapped about months of the year?

Looking forward:

Next week, we will be stepping further into our new class book and enjoying the story – I wonder of your predictions will turn out to be correct? We will also be studying the decline of the Roman Empire, focusing more on Africa, practicing some traditional races in PE, continuing to strive for our targets in reading, times tables, spelling and arithmetic and learning more about plants in Science.

  • Please not that PE will now be on a Tuesday and so PE kit will need to be worn on that day please.

Thank you for your support with the Inspirational People projects over the Half Term break – what a fabulous selection of pieces of work and full range of people who inspire the children in Class Three. Thank you to those children who presented today and I’m looking forward to many more next week.

Have a lovely weekend and fingers crossed for some more sunshine.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs Sant
