Y3 Looking back and forth 20.11.20

Friday 20th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 3

Looking back:

The week started so well as we began our new maths topic of multiplication and division and we have worked hard to investigate what multiplication means and how it can be represented. English continued too as we found out about the structure and features of a fable and used some really ambitious vocabulary to describe our characters and their traits. Our History timelines are looking fabulous and we are looking forward to what’s coming next. We are becoming quite the experts on the UK in Geography as we have researched the bodies of water, counties, cities and towns.

Year 3 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • PE with Mr T – Touch Rugby was great!
  • Iron Man work for our layered piece
  • Computing E-Safety with Mrs Cooper
  • Reading assessment – what an improvement!
  • Having fun singing
  • Maths – arithmetic challenges
  • Before School Football – with Mr T
  • And a Partridge In a Pear Tree!!!!!
  • And…everything – just being here!

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • What is so inspirational about this week’s person of the week?
  • What are the differences between villages, towns and cities?
  • Challenge: What are the four bodies of water surrounding the UK?

Looking forward:

Next week in Class 3, we will be starting to write about our oldest and most recent women inventors and looking at the impact they had and are still having. We will be planning and writing our own fable, continuing to investigate our maths topic with a focus on division, enjoying finding out more about e-safety with Mrs Cooper and of course, loving practising our Christmas songs, ready to perform. Every moment will be jam packed with learning and enjoyment.

When supporting your child with their homework this week, you will notice that they have some handwriting work included. This is to help those with well developed cursive writing to maintain their standards and review the joins and for those less confident, a chance to work hard to work on our class targets of finger spaces, form your letters and on the line! There is so much to think about as a young writer in Year 3, that to have a separate piece where their focus is their presentation only, should really help sharpen these skills.

Thank you for this week children and take care. I hope that you all have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Sant
