Y4 28th February 2020 - Looking Back and Forth
Friday 28th February 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
The children began to look at a Viking myth called ‘Arthur and the golden rope’. This week, we have explored the vocabulary of this new text as well as looking abstract noun phrases.
In maths, we continued to look at multiplication – in particular using the expanded and short methods of multiplication of 2digit by 1 digit numbers.
In the afternoons; we evaluated our electrical quizzes. We learnt about the Anglo Saxon burial site at Sutton Hoo, and looked at some of the treasures that were buried there. We investigated Alfred The Great. We worked out why he was so Great? We listened to the Mountain King by Kreig and created runic press prints based on what we learnt about the Viking Gods, from Arthur’s story.
Questions to ask at home:
- How do you multiply 3 digits by one digit?
- What was Sutton Hoo?
- What was found there?
- What did archaelogists work out about Anglo Saxons from Sutton Hoo?
- Who was Alfred the Great?
- Why was he sooooo Great?
Highlights of the week:
- Playing football with my friends
- I loved doing the drawing for the printing in polystyrene with purple pen
- PE, because I love doing team work exercises
- Looking at Viking and Anglo Saxon myths
- English writing – Arthur and the rope was fun!
Looking forward:
This week, the children will continue to work on Arthur and the golden rope as a stimulus, as well as listening to and exploring lots more Viking myths. In maths, we will continue to work on multiplication and division; looking at division methods in particular. This week, the children will complete their learning on the Anglo Saxons for the moment. They will complete their end of topic assessments and as well as thinking up the top ten facts they have learnt about Anglo Saxons.
This week on World Book Day (Thursday) the children can bring their slippers to school – for stories and slippers.
Could you please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit in school on Friday from Lacrosse.
