Y4 4.10.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 4th October 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

The week started with the visit by Kurt Adams, the Olympic canoeist.  He was superb!  He talked to the children about the hard work involved in being a top class athlete.  He talked to the children about focus and resilience, for a young chap he spoke a lot of sense and was truly inspiring.  Thank you for all of your support in raising the sponsor money to support Kurt going to Tokyo.

One of the slides that Kurt talked through with the children.

This week the children started a new unit of work on non-chronological reports.  We started the week exploring the book ‘Wolves in the walls’ by Neil Gaiman (Who write for Doctor Who).  It is a fantastic book and the class was fascinated by it.  This kick started the work on writing a report about grey wolves.

We also worked with the wonderful metal artist Jo Risley this week, creating seed heads and butterflies for the back display of the exhibition.  The children were brilliant at listening and constructing their pieces.

In maths we worked on arithmetic work with Mrs Benson.  We looked at big numbers and working with 1,000’s.  We had our swimming lesson at Sandbach.  We explored the mountains of South Africa as well as the parts of a mountain.  The children began their animations with Mrs Cooper.

Year 4 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Starting our Flotsam animations with Mrs Cooper
  • The poems in assembly
  • Doing the metal work in the hall
  • The metal work, because we got to use tools!
  • Swimming

  • What is a snowline?
  • What is a summit?
  • What is the biggest mountain range in South Africa?
