Y4 Friday 17th January 2020 - Looking Back and Forth
Friday 17th January 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
The children used the text ‘The Whale’ to create their own scene settings. The class worked hard on using dramatic devices and used exciting vocabulary for example: - Unknown, secretive, catapulted, vast vessel swiftly, tingled, zinged, subside, ascend, flimsy, mammal, plummeted, rocked rapidly, whipped, fragile, tense, rickety, swarmed, whistled, feline, strengthened, rose, judder, bobbing, strenuous and devious. You have to agree – great vocabulary!
In maths, the children completed the unit on addition and subtraction and moved onto looking at measurement – kilometres this week.
In the afternoons; we began our create simple circuits in electricity, learnt about the Anglo Saxon village life, we looked at how the native Britons were forced into Wales and Cornwall, (whilst the Anglo Saxons set up their kingdoms in England) and we also discussed the divided opinions about King Vortigen.
Questions to ask at home:
- How many metres are there in a kilometre?
- In half a kilometre?
- In quarter of a kilometre?
- What does the word circuit mean?
- How can you make a bulb light up with – one bulb, one cell and one wire?
- What is the difference between a cell and a battery?
- What features can you remember from an Anglo Saxon village?
- Where were the native Britons forced to live when the Anglo Saxons settled in Britain?
- Why didn’t the Anglo Saxons settle in Scotland (Who was there?)
Highlights of the week:
- Tag rugby with the Premier Sports coaches
- The Whale writing
- Making electrical circuits in science
- TTRockstars – timestables
- Reading
- Playing with my friends
- Kilometres in maths
Looking forward:
We will continue to work on scene settings, using the book ‘The Whale’, this time we will create our own scenes using a picture from the book. We will continue working on measurement in maths, looking at kilometres. There will be further investigations into the world of the Anglo Saxons. We will look at what Anglo Saxons wore and how they coloured their fabrics.
Could you please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit in school on Friday from Tag Rugby. We will be outside(unless it is pouring), so warmer jogging trousers and a jumper are preferable.
I think this is a really good opportunity to learn more about the RE taught in school.
