Y4 Friday 9th October 2020 - Looking Back and Forth
Friday 9th October 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
The children continued to work on the biographies. This week we started to write our biographies and worked hard to develop an exciting first paragraph, which hopefully would engage our readers straight away.
In maths, we have continued our work on Place Value, rounding numbers to the nearest 1,000 as well ordering 4 digit numbers.
In the afternoons; we looked at the different kinds of mountain and how the temperatures change at different altitudes on the mountain. We explored the glass bottle orchestras in more depth and made our own panpipes out of straws to see how pitch changes with the length of the panpipe. We explored using salt with watercolours to create textured papers in our collage work. We learnt about the inspirational people – Nelson Mandela and Frida Kahlo. We continued to learn about the faith of Islam with Mrs Riddell as well as looking at folk music of the British Isles. This week, we looked at Scottish music.
Questions to ask at home:
- Who is Nelson Mandela?
- Who is Frida Kahlo? Why was she very brave in her early life?
- What is a fold mountain, a dome mountain, a plateau mountains, a volcano and a fault block mountain?
- What happens to the temperature of the air, the higher up the mountain you go?
- What happens when you blow across a glass bottle or hit a glass bottle that is full of water?
- What do you have to do if you want to
Looking forward:
This week, the children will write and edit their biographies. In maths, we will continue to look at Place Value with negative numbers and Roman numeral.
We will continue with our mountains collages. We will also look at the different parts and climates on mountains.
Remember to wear P.E. kits on Friday. We are using the field when it is dry. Jogging bottoms and jumpers are a must as the weather gets colder.
